In recent years the internet has provide priceless access to information about preparedness,  people,  places,  plans,  equipment,  finding people with similar politics to yourself etc.   The Prepper and Self-reliance communities have made huge steps forward in sharing information by accessing the Internet.   One problem faced when using the internet is accessing information, contacts and intelligence etc that are of interest to you that is free from unwanted or obscene material.

On public news groups such as Misc Survivalism one can find very enlightened and useful material, but you also become exposed to Trolls,  Flamers,  Virus attacks,  Spam, and people with questionable morals and intentions.  This is all too common an experience for people new to the world of preparedness and it has caused many of them to withdraw from trying to make useful contacts or to access the information they need.   Fortunately for us a few valiant souls have taken on the role of setting up and running superb moderated news groups and survival archives.

But in the last few years Survivalism has evolved and changed to meet the needs of a more enlightened, better educated but equally concerned society.

Whilst survivalists may still be going strong, there is a more gentle but equally motivated movement that has gained in both popularity and strength.

Preppers!

I am of course referring to the ‘Prepper’ movement, Prepper being a play on “Preparedness”. More and more people across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK and Europe have reacted in response to the huge rise in global terrorism, natural disasters and massive economic and social instability affecting the world.  These people are not gung ho gun toting maniacs living in remote forests.  Today they are just ordinary every day families, individuals and groups seeking to better insulate and protect themselves from the problems the world faces now faces with ever growing alarm and uncertainty.

Internet communities or hubs of Preppers have flourished in the last five years, and from this trend a  ‘Preppers’ Network has evolved, first as is so often the case in the USA, then expanding into Canada, Europe and now in the UK with UKPreppers.com.

UKPreppers.com  is part of the firmly established International Preppers Network, where we are listed as the website and forum that represents preppers in the UK.  No other website or forum in the United Kingdom shares the highly internationally recognised status that UKPreppers.com has.

In the relatively short time since it’s introduction in mid February 2010, the forum has evolved into the number one intellectual home for serious UK Preppers.

In our forum, we have a variety of different sections and the list of topics increases almost daily,  such as “Whats Happening in the Prepper World” which covers daily news events aimed at the interests of UK Preppers,  a section titled  “How are you Preparing” which is very active and promotes discussion about what each member is doing at the moment in terms of their prepping, and a “Prepper Gear and Technology” section where the best gear and gadgets available for UK preppers are discussed.   And there are many other sections where you can learn about the UK Prepper mindset.
